- Jacob was a carpenter and he built some lovely large homes in Benton and Iowa Counties. The beautiful brick Catholic Church in Norway, Iowa, was one of his projects. He also owned and operated a hardware store. Many a woodburning stove left that building! He built the home where they lived in Norway for over fifty years. It was on top of the hill near the park. He took pride in his work. He lived to be ninety years old. His wife then moved to Cedar Rapids to be near her children. She also lived to be ninety. Their bodies are in the Swedenburg Cemetery south of Norway
